DraftKings launched its three-handed sit and go poker game, Electric Poker, in Pennsylvania this month, following an earlier launch in Michigan in August.
This makes Pennsylvania the second state to feature Electric Poker, as DraftKings Poker continues to explore the real money online poker landscape and offer the game in more jurisdictions.
For the time being, Electric Poker remains the only real money poker game offered by the reputable iGaming operator, fully available through the DraftKings Casino PA online casino platform.
DraftKings Vice President of iGaming Marketing and Operations Jason March commented, “After positive feedback from our players in Michigan, we are thrilled to expand our Electric Poker offerings to our customers in Pennsylvania, delivering them a best-in-class online poker experience.”
What Is Electric Poker?
If you are still wondering what exactly Electric Poker is, the answer is quite simple. The game is a three-handed sit and go format with a jackpot prize distribution model, akin to those offered by some of the other real money online poker rooms in the US.
A game of Electric Poker starts when three players sign up for a game at a particular buyin level ($1, $5, $10, and $25 available). Once a game starts, a randomized prize is selected by the random number generator (RNG), anywhere between 2x and 10,000x the buyin.
The game then progresses with fast-paced two-minute blind levels, and enters a special Electric Mode after a few levels, forcing all remaining players all-in and driving quick action.
Electric Poker is a highly volatile and fast-paced poker game, but one that also promises great rewards for the patient players who put in good volume.
DraftKings Looking for a Slice of the Expanding PA Market
The Pennsylvania online poker market is one of the healthiest in the country, as DraftKings Poker, BetMGM Poker, Borgata Poker, PokerStars, and WSOP Online all already offer real money poker options in the state, with BetRivers Poker PA also planning a full launch in the near future.
This means PA poker players will soon have six real money online poker options to choose from, as the state approaches entry into the Multi State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), which would see the operators’ player pools merged with those in New Jersey, Michigan, Nevada, Delaware, and West Virginia.
Being one of the largest sports betting and online casino operators in the state, DraftKings will look to establish its presence in the online poker segment as well, with Electric Poker likely to become a hit with the players, especially with the potential rise in liquidity that should come with PA joining MSIGA.
Players can now access Electric Poker games directly through the DraftKings Casino PA lobby, which should see a significant influx of casual poker players and casino players into the new online poker format.
Can We Expect Electric Poker in Other States?
Just a few months ago, Electric Poker was not available at all, and now it is already live in two major iGaming states, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
While no clear plans have been set into motion, we could expect DraftKings to launch the product in New Jersey, Connecticut, West Virginia, and Ontario, all of which are states or provinces where the operator already has a significant presence.
With the product now fully developed, it would be easy for DraftKings to implement it into its existing online casino products in these markets and further improve the quality of its product.
States like Delaware and Nevada seem a more farfetched option at this time, as Rush Street Interactive currently holds a monopoly on real money poker in the former, and the latter does not allow for online casino gaming, meaning Electric Poker would have to be launched as a standalone product.
