betPARX told customers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in late June that, effective July 1, it would no longer accept Visa, Mastercard or Discover credit cards for deposits.
The operator said the change was being made in the interest of providing a secure, responsible and compliant gaming environment for all users. Debit cards will continue to be accepted.
Customers with a credit card saved to their account were told they could remove it and switch to debit, ACH/eCheck, PayPal or Play+.
Those alternative methods were also listed as withdrawal options. The move puts betPARX in line with a broader shift in US iGaming away from credit card deposits.
Sportsline said other New Jersey and Pennsylvania online casinos, including BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, Fanatics and bet365, have recently moved away from credit cards as well. The report said responsible gambling was the main reason operators gave for the change.
Separately, New Jersey Senate Bill S3461, introduced on Feb. 9, would prohibit credit card payments for online casino games and online sports wagering. It also ties online play to account creation and KYC standards, and says the division may issue regulations covering the use of credit and checks, including a prohibition on credit card deposits to online sports wagering accounts or participation in online sports pools.
