For the second straight month, Pennsylvania online casino operators have shattered the US casino revenue record, generating $233.1 million in gross revenue in March alone.
Over the last four months, the PA igaming operators have exceeded the $200 million mark three times, with March being by far their best month to date.
For comparison, Pennsylvania set the previous record at just over $215 million in February 2024, and then saw an 8.3% month-to-month increase worth over $18 million in extra revenue.
In many ways, the operators have exceeded everyone’s wildest expectations, as Keystone State continues to set new records for others to try and break.
Pennsylvania iGaming Leads Ahead of Michigan
Pennsylvania and Michigan have been running neck and neck when it comes to igaming revenue for some time, with PA setting the new record in February and MI coming very close to breaking it this March, recording $215.2 million in gross revenue.
However, the PA report came in just a day later and demonstrated that the state was running further ahead of MI, as the $233.1 million revenue record was set by its numerous operators.
Leading the way were operators under licenses by Hollywood Penn National, Valley Forge, and Rivers Philadelphia, who combined for over $190 million of the overall number.
The BetRivers operators such as Borgata, BetRivers, and PlaySugarHouse exceeded $40 million in revenue for the first time in their history, adding significantly to the push that was needed for a record revenue number in March.
PA Online Casino Revenue Breakdown
The massive $233.1 million in gross revenue recorded by Pennsylvania online casinos is a number that operators in other states will be looking to catch up to for some time to come, but it is interesting to see how exactly they got there.
As expected, the vast majority of the revenue came from the slot machines, with $177,521,044 won at slots by the state’s leading operators.
Compared to slots, table games added only a fraction of revenue to the overall number, combining for a grand total of $53,091,909 in revenue.
Lastly, online poker in PA added another $2,474,651 in revenue, once again demonstrating its relative economic insignificance to the operation of PA online casinos, but staying a valuable marketing tools that brings players in the door and allows them to compete at a relatively low premium.
In recent months, PA online poker sites have been offering players a variety of exciting experiences, including the relatively novel mystery bounty poker events, and various tournament series that offer a chance of big wins through sheer competition.
Following this report, PA online casinos are now on pace to reach $2.55 billion in revenue over the course of 2024, which would be a significant increase to last year’s $2.11 billion, and another US record.
In March, the operators paid over $81,000,000 in taxes, while spending some $42,000,000 on promotions, leaving over $110,000,000 for operational costs and profit.
As the year moves on, it will be interesting to monitor further developments and see if the PA igaming companies can go a step further and shatter even the current projections to set a yearly record beyond everyone’s expectations.
