The month of August has been massive for online poker in Pennsylvania, with the first-ever edition of the WSOP PA coming to a close with eight WSOP bracelets awarded and more action already underway.
Two of the state’s leading online poker operators, PokerStars PA and BetMGM MI, have launched their own tournament series and the coming weekend brings us the pinnacle of both series.
As PokerStars’ Championship of Online Poker approaches, the operator has launched the Champions Preseason Series, while BetMGM offers $220,000 in guaranteed prize pools in its Pennsylvania Online Series.
PokerStars Champions Preseason Series
PokerStars Championship of Online Poker (COOP) is coming up and the operator has decided to give its players a chance to warm up by throwing a Champions Preseason Series, with a total of $400,000 in guaranteed prize pools spread across 10 events, which started on August 12.
This weekend, the Champions Preseason Series comes to a climax, with a massive $100,000 Main Event taking place on Sunday, August 22.
The $200 Main Event is expected to attract a massive crowd, although a potential overlay is always an option with the big guarantees at online poker sites in Pennsylvania.
Fans of multi-table tournament (MTT) action will have more chances at big scores in other side events over the weekend, as well as a chance to win one of the 30 Main Event tickets through a Depositors Freeroll which will take place on August 22, before the Main Event itself. To qualify for the freeroll, players must make a deposit of at least $30 using the promo code CHAMPIONS.
The winner of the Main Event will receive a bonus on top of the prize money, with PokerStars adding two premium tickets to an NFL game of the player’s choice as an extra incentive to get involved.
Players who get involved with the Champions Preseason Series will also receive various rewards which will become available during the actual COOP series, with Kickoff tickets, Spin ‘n Go tickets, and Warm Up entries all up for grabs simply for participating in the Preseason tournaments.
Pennsylvania Online Series at BetMGM PA
BetMGM PA decided to join the action and launched a tournament series of its own for Pennsylvania poker players. The Pennsylvania Online Series at BetMGM PA, which began on August 12, features 10 events in total.
The series offers $220,000 in total guarantees, with the grand finale being the Main Event on Sunday, August 22. The $535 Main Event is also the biggest buy-in of the series, with the lowest buy-in tournament priced at just $20.
Players who have their eyes on playing the Main Event will likely want to participate in the $20k guaranteed tournament on Saturday for $215, and the $30k event for $109 that leads up to the Main Event on Sunday evening.
The last major BetMGM PA tournament series saw some serious overlays. While the guarantees are a bit lower this time around, the player volume in August tends to be lower as well, making the prospect of overlays a realistic option once again.
